10 Things To Give Up To Move Forward

Posted by Ryan Dutka . on Friday, July 11th, 2014 at 11:14pm.

Forward movement is made with small accomplishments

Starting today,
1) GIVE UP
Needing the opinions and approval of others to make your decisions.

Parents are charged with knowing what is best for their chidden
but all good parents will admit to the angst they suffer
trying to figure out what is best because nobody can know what is best for anyone.

Only you know your heart song, what inspires you what it is you need to feel purposeful.
Only you and know you.
Only you know how you are affected by your experiences

Even when people are at their most helpful they cannot know what is best for you.
You have to do exactly what’s best for you and your life,
Be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind do not matter and those who matter do not mind
Dr Seuss

Be yourself
who else is better qualified
Frank J Giblin

2-GIVE UP
The Fear of Failure

We only learn from trial and error not trial and right.
Success is never final, failure is never fatal.
It is courage which counts.
John Wooden

A man who doesn't want to fail doesn't want to succeed either.
- Unknown

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again . Fail again. Fail better
Samuel Beckett

Your past does not equal your future.
Just because you failed yesterday; or all day today; or a moment ago;
or for the last six months; or for the last sixteen years,
doesn’t have any impact on the current moment.
All that matters is what you do right now.

No matter what your past has been you have a spotless future
- Unknown

Everyone has something in their past they wish they could change.
Whether it’s a mistake, a regret, a disappointment, or a deep pain, we’ve all had moments
that can feel overwhelming if we try to hold onto them while building tomorrow.

We can never change what’s come and gone,
but we can always choose instead to focus on what’s coming and where we’re going.
Take a walk, call a friend, or look up that class you want to take,
and immerse yourself in that moment.

3-GIVE UP
Being indecisive about what you want.

If you do not know where you are going any road will get you there
Lewis Carol

Knowing where you want to go will decide the road for you.
The road to where you are going is filled with passion.
Passion is the energy which creates success.

No decision is a decision with no passion.
No decision need be final but making decisions
is required to mobilising energy into activity.

Activity is the outcome of passion.
It’s all about finding and pursuing your passion.
Make a decision to figure out what you want, and then pursue it passionately.

4-GIVE UP
Waiting for the perfect moment.

Secret to success memorise and follow this never-fail recipe
get started don’t quit
Barbara Winter

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you did not do
than the things you did do
Mark Twain

There is no perfect time, perfect place, perfect conditions.
Perfection does not exist otherwise nature would only have one of everything.
Better to start now rather than regret tomorrow that you could have started today.

The greatest fear should not be of failure
but of succeeding at things in life which do not really matter
Francis Chan

Failure is success if we learn from it
Malcom Forbes

5-GIVE UP
Choosing to do nothing.

Not choosing is choosing to do nothing.
In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.

The worst thing you can do is nothing.
Theodore Roosevelt

We have no say about being born and we will all die
what we do have is the choice to live until we die.

You must make a choice
to take a chance
or
Your life will never change
Every morning you have two choices
Continue your sleep and dream
or wake up to chase your dreams
Every day is a new chance to choose.
Choose to change your perspective.
Choose to be positive instead of negative
Choose to find your purpose
Choose to live your passion
Choose work which makes you feel good about yourself.
Choose to live fully now
No matter how far you have gone down the wrong road
you can always turn around
The doors we open and close each day
decide the lives we live
Fiora Whitemore

6-GIVE UP
Your need to be right.

There is no right and no wrong
There are only decisions and consequences.

Everything is a decision, even not deciding is a decision to leave the decision to others.
You can never have access to enough information
to be able to guarantee the outcome which you want,
as information is always in a state of incomplete flux
contradictory, changing and from sources which have their own agenda.

We cannot control the outcome of our decisions
any more than we can predict the unintended consequences.
-Put your heart in the right place,
-Make your goal to do no harm,
-Aim towards the greater good and then
- Be clear about your values
Hope for the best and cope with the rest.

7-GIVE UP
Hoping time will solve the problem

Problems and Time are mortal enemies.
Waiting for Time to fix your problem
would be like waiting for your cancer to get tired of you and go away.

Life is a continuous exercise in creative problem solving.
Not a day goes by without you having to solve a problem
for which you were not prepared.

Car runs out of gas, you forgot your cell phone somewhere while shopping
and you do not have time to look for it because you are late for picking up the kids.
On and on it goes.

You have to solve problems on the fly because they do not go away.
So to with problems you have time to think about.
Face the problem, look it in the eye and make a decision, take action,
follow through and deal with what ever happens after

A mistake doesn’t become a failure until you refuse to correct it.
If you don't make mistakes, you're not working on hard enough problems.
And that's a big mistake.
Frank Wilczek

8-GIVE UP
Making excuses rather than decisions.

The difference between a reason and an excuse is time.
If you have been using the same reason for more than a year it is now an excuse.
long-term failures are the outcome of people who make excuses instead of decisions

There is a difference between interest and commitment
when you are interested in doing something you do it only when it is convenient
when you are committed to something you accept no excuses only results
Kenneth Blanchard

If it is important to you will find a way if not you will find an excuse
Maturity comes when you stop making excuses and start making changes

If you think you can or think you can’t you are right
Henry Ford

9-GIVE UP
Focusing on the negative.

Negative can be our friend, it is actually hard wired into us as a survival mechanism.
Just ask any self preserving animal of the jungle, including the Urban Jungle.

It is best to see a shadow as a threat and be wrong
then to see a shadow as a friend and be wrong.

But when it comes to self talk negativity becomes the enemy.
Negative and positive are two faces of the same coin.

Spin the coin and use the positive side
Focus on what you did well, what turned out the way you wanted
and repeat repeat repeat.

Being positive will not guarantee you will succeed
but being negative will guarantee you will not
Jon Gordon

Being positive does not mean ignoring the negative
being positive means overcoming the negative
Be too positive to be doubtful
Too optimistic to be fearful and Too Determined to be defeated
A negative thinker sees a difficulty in every opportunity
A positive thinker sees an opportunity in every difficulty

When something bad happens you have three choices
you can either let it define you
let it destroy you
or you can let it strengthen you

A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity
an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty
Winston Churchill

Be helpful when you see a person without a smile
give him yours
Zig Ziglar

Life is like a book
some chapters sad, some happy , and some exciting
But if you never turn the page or will never know what the next chapter holds

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life
It turns what we have into enough and more
It can turn a meal into a feast a house into a home a stranger into a friend
Melody Beattie

Remember the moments

Live authentically and cherish each precious moment of your journey.
Because when you finally arrive at your desired destination,
it is guaranteed you, another journey will begin.

You will have a hard time ever being happy
if you aren’t thankful for the good things in your life right now.
