About Holyrood Homes for Sale
Homes for sale in Holyrood are a rare find which is likely due to the amazing community spirit that pervades this charming neighbourhood. For those that do get listed, there’s a gulf in the age of the décor. For example, on the low end (roughly $400,000), one can expect an older home with original 1960’s and 1970’s parquet flooring, wood paneling and even original bathroom tiles. As such, these types of homes attract investors who can either take advantage of the large lots by replacing the home with two new-builds or convert the home in rental units. On the high end of the Holyrood real estate market, you can expect to see new-build homes that feature the following:
- Well-lit rooms with vaulted ceilings
- Smaller, manageable sized lots
- Large soaker tubs
- Custom-fitted kitchens
- New flooring – usually a mixture of hardwood and carpet
- Double sinks in the bathrooms
The Amenities and Lifestyle in Holyrood
Holyrood enjoys close links to major roadways, providing great links to all the surrounding communities and Downtown Edmonton's core. As with most suburbs of Edmonton, residents can expect tree-lined interior streets that are reasonably quiet, servicing mostly local traffic. In the centre of the community lies a very active Community League which organizes many programs including drop-in playgroups, soccer, yoga, paint classes and the popular “Learn To” programs; which are great for young children to develop their bicycle riding and skateboarding skills.
In the same area as the Community League lies the only school in the area, Holyrood Elementary School. A school that prides itself on academic excellence, open communication between parents and teachers, and offers French Immersion for kindergarteners as well as a traditional English curriculum.
For shopping, locals have two choices, The Bonnie Doon Mall and the smaller, Holyrood Mini-Mart. Between the two, locals can find a slew of stores including large grocers such as Safeway and M&M meats, as well as, small businesses, yoga studios, and dry cleaners. With the proximity to main thoroughfares, there are two lines of public buses that service the area, ferrying locals to and from Downtown Edmonton every 30 minutes in just under half an hour.
